Welcome to Royston Model Flying Club

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Our flying field is open to members and invited guests in accordance with club rules.
In addition reference should be made to the British Model Flying Association statement which can be found on their (BMFA) website.

We follow a strategy of ensuring legal flying at our site so please obey the simple rules when at the field escpecially when you arrive and leave.
NOTE!
  1. Drones & FPV are not allowed at our site. For further information visit our 'Field Advice' page.

  2. Only guest fliers that are members of the BMFA shall be allowed to fly solo at the club.
Potential new members or guests without an BMFA 'A' Certificate will be asked to fly on a buddy lead with an experienced flier. All planes flown at the field will require to display a current CAA registation number.

  3. WHAT SHOULD WE DO WHEN WE GO TO THE FIELD?
    A.  Please make sure you enter your name and arrival time in the 'Signing - in book'
    B. FINISHED FLYING? - When you leave  the field, make sure you enter the time you leave in the 'Signing - in book' then leave promptly.
These two things are of great importance and ensures that we can operate an effective 'Track & Trace' system for whatever reason should the need arise.

    Website last updated on 24/04/2024

Welcome to the website of Royston MAC. Also known as the Hooded Crow Flyers this site has been set up to provide members with club information, articles and anything you wish to add for your general interest. Whether you are an existing member or if you have recently joined us we hope this site will be of help to you.

We are a friendly bunch of modellers with experienced, intermediate and novice fliers of all ages although we insist that younger flyers must be accompanied by an adult at all times. If you want a bit of help, we offer tuition for fliers which is freely available from experienced members.

If you are not a member and have found your way here from another page, please read on and feel free to read about us.
The primary interest of most group members is radio-controlled power & electric models with sports, scale, fun-fly, aerobatic, jet turbines and glider models all being flown regularly.

However, free flight Drones & FPV models are not allowed owing to certain restrictions at our field (for further information please refer to the 'Field Advice' page). In the winter we also hold Indoor flying Sessions once a month for small electric models (both R/c and free flight).

In the summer, apart from regular flying days, we also hold a War Bird Fly-In, an Annual Fly For Fun event and an Autumn Family Fly-In weekend where members families are invited to join us.

As a responsible group we consider Health and Safety of great importance. We have qualified examiners and tutors who can take novices through the early stages of learning to fly and ensure that safe practices are always adopted. We also participate in the BMFA achievement scheme to encourage beginners and flyers in the 'A' and 'B' certificates.

            Weather

Check Before you Fly!
Check that vital weather forecast before you head off to the field. This information is provided to help you plan your day. If you need to respond to the lady of the house, you need to be prepared. Your answer will be “Its fine, I’m off FLYING” or “Its not too good and I have some urgent repairs to do on the model”. Don’t get caught out without knowing the weather. Your answer could mean a day flying or modelling, or a day decorating (and we don’t want that do we!).
